Tooth Coloured White Fillings

Tooth coloured fillings are far more aesthetically pleasing than silver amalgam fillings. Not only does it look good, but you also have the advantage of a chemical bond to the tooth which protects the remaining underlying healthy tooth from attack of bacteria and stimulants that can cause sensitivity. White fillings, are also known as Composite/Resin fillings and can be placed on any surface of any tooth

What is done?

Removal of decay from the cavity is necessary as further progression of decay into the nerve will result in excruciating pain and the possibility of carrying out a root canal. That is why, we will take routine X-rays when carrying out the consultation visit, and detection of any cavity will be able to be picked up same time.

If a cavity is large, and a large portion of the tooth has been lost, crowning of the tooth is usually advisable as a large filling in a tooth can still be surrounded by a thin wall of natural tooth. This can easily lead to fracture of the tooth and eventually extraction thereof.

Of importance, composite veneers can also be carried out and is often termed bonding. This is where cost may be a factor when considering porcelain veneers. There are differences with both of these procedures, and this will be explained to you at your consultation visit. Assessment and advice by our dental team will lead to the best solution possible.
