The words root canal sends shivers down peoples spines!!!!But all we can say is, here at Garach Dental, you will have the best experience. Root canal techniques and equipment have changed since many years ago, and diagnosis of each case is fundamental.
Why do we need to have a root canal procedure done? When decay progresses into the pulp chamber or nerve canal of the tooth, bacteria now infiltrate this area of the tooth. In doing so, infection builds up in this area and results in lots of pain. Often, a throbbing, continuous pain is felt with lingering sensitivity from hot and cold substances. When this stage is present, there are two options that can be carried out, namely; extraction of the tooth or a root canal procedure.
What is a root canal procedure? This is basically the removal of all infected nerve tissue and blood vessels from the tooth. In doing so, pain relief is most often felt because it is the build-up of infection that causes the pain. This is the first stage, where medication is now placed into the canal and a temporary covering on top of the tooth. The second appointment is done for the removal of any residual infection, followed by sealing of the canals. If infection is still present and the tooth is still very tender, we normally carry out the first stage again at the second appointment and complete the root canal procedure at the third appointment.
Porcelain Crowning of the tooth is absolutely vital after any root canal procedure, as brittleness of the tooth can most often lead to fracturing of the tooth. This is often carried out one week after the completion of the root canal procedure.
